Copper Enamel Stick Earrings
Handmade copper enamelled earrings. The front is enamelled in colourful glass enamel. The back is pure, uncoated copper. Hooks are made of hypoallergenic niobium. Enamel piece is about 1.5” long. Every enamelled piece is completely one of a kind! Small imperfections give the piece character and handcrafted charm.
Process:
This piece is sawn out of copper sheet by hand. The piece is filed, drilled, shaped and sanded. I then sift a fine powdered glass substance called enamel onto the surface. It is slowly fired at a very high temperature layer by layer to melt and fuse the coloured glass to the copper. In the final layer, small shards of glass are placed into the enamel which pool as they melt in the kiln. I use a small enamelling kiln which my Grandma used for copper enamelling in the 70s. Every enamelled piece is one of a kind!
